"/etc/modprobe.d/nf" with: options nouveau noaccel=1
I did this before in 17.1, and it seems as though the problem was not quite as bad, and the suggested Driver was a few Versions back from the Nvidia one I tried here? I wonder if going back to the Suggested Nvidia Driver, and changing some Settings in the Nvidia Software and maybe in Compiz would fix all this crazyness? I would think Nvidia would have built a good driver for us linux guys! Linux should run better than Vista did, common Linux guys, or should that be directed to the Nvidia Guys LOL. Would like to try the “NVIDIA legacy binary driver – version 173.14.39” does anyone think this is a viable driver?Īgain, really surprised no one else has run this successfully. I wonder if there are any other settings that folks have had success with for this Graphics Card? I wish I had a better grasp on what all these terms meant, I wonder what, if anything Un-checking OpenGL in Compiz would do? I was very hopeful that this would be a really nice little Linux box. I have to say, I'm a bit disappointed that Linux will not work well on what was very mainstream Hardware.
Last night while testing had a crash using the "nouveau" Drivers while in Chrome, so I guess using this Driver is not going to work. I made the change and restarted both browsers with no success. I just did it in both browsers and don't see any difference in Screen Tearing. I've been using Linux for a long time Rob and didn't really know about that being the thing to do, though some had told me to turn it off, I'd never thought it to help. Really hoping to get the best performance out of it also, so if that means using the Nvidia drivers that's fine. I think I need to boot into Compatibility Mode, make the install, then add nomodeset to Grub? or do I need to modify "/etc/modprobe.d/nf" with: options nouveau noaccel=1
If I remember correctly, 17.3 it was more difficult to install without freezing, but cannot be sure.Ģ. If not, will use 17.2 like I did last time which seemed to work the best. First off, not sure if I can use 17.3, which is what I would prefer. After too many hours studying up on it last night, I now think this time will try the nouveau driver, how does this sound to all here? And, what approach do I need to use to get this done? This is my take on it now:ġ. Now, I'm still a little confused about the best way to approach this. I was all over the place at that Thread, so hope this time will start out not messing around so long with Installing and Uninstalling Drivers etc. I did this once before with all kinds of good help on this board, here is the Link. Hey guys, I have another nice old Vista pc that really needs a Linux Treatment.
